Fiskite Lives The Way He Wants To Be Remembered
Dr. Louis Anderson (B.S.’77) recently created an endowment in his will to support scholarships, teaching, research and programs at Fisk University.
He says there are three reasons why this is smart.
First, "it's what Fiskites do," says Dr. Anderson, a longtime alumni supporter of the Fisk University.
Second, Dr. Anderson says it's important to reinforce for his son, Louis Anderson III, that philanthropy is a family matter, not something parents decide in secret.
"My philanthropy started with what my son saw me do at church,” Louis says. "But I expanded to giving of my time and talent, too. My father never had to push me to do charitable work. For me, it's a way for my son to see a diverse part of our community and appreciate how blessed we are."
The third reason is personal. He wanted to create a permanent legacy of helping future Fiskites with their educational pursuits.
Because of his vision, Dr. Anderson’s passion eventually will be carried forward at Fisk University. One day, it will be their children and relatives whose hearts will be warmed by Fiskites who appreciatively and fondly speak his name.
Dr. Anderson graduated from Fisk University in 1977 and then went on to receive his MD from the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine in 1982. He works in Washington, DC and specializes in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Anderson is affiliated with Medstar Washington Hospital Center and The Kaiser Permanente Medical Group.
