FISK TO LAUNCH CENTER FOR FINANCIAL ADVANCEMENT
Fisk University has announced the launch of The Center for Financial Advancement, a center committed to providing financial education to students, staff, and members of the Nashville community. As part of its mission, the Center for Financial Advancement seeks to provide education in the areas of money management, credit management, and homeownership while also providing education and career preparatory opportunities to position participants for careers in the mortgage industry. FISK ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH ART BRIDGES FOUNDATION
Fisk University has announced a partnership with Art Bridges, a new non-profit foundation focused on sharing outstanding works of American art. Founded by Alice Walton, Art Bridges will work with museums, colleges, and universities throughout the country to assist with the creation and funding of exhibits, while bringing together art from museums, private collections, and foundations. JAZZY 88 WFSK TO HOST 12TH ANNUAL RADIOTHON
Jazzy 88 WFSK, home to Nashville’s jazz radio, will host its 12th annual Radiothon, beginning Friday, October 6-8 as part of its annual fundraising campaign. Serving Nashville since 1973, Jazzy 88 WFSK has a Smooth & Contemporary jazz music format, talk programs and cross-cultural programming. NAOMI DAVIS '75 NAMED TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD FOR OBAMA FOUNDATION |
Naomi Davis '75, was chosen to serve on the economic development board of the newly-founded Obama Foundation in Chicago, IL. As part of its mission, the board will focus on the economic growth and sustainability for the Chicago South Side. Davis is Founder and President of Blacks in Green, an economic development firm in Chicago focused on sustainability in communities of color. Davis holds a bachelor’s degree from Fisk University and a juris doctorate from The John Marshall Law School. |

Dr. Reavis Mitchell, history professor and dean of the School of Humanities Social and Behavioral Sciences at Fisk University was recently featured in a a segment of Open Line with News Channel 5 journalist Ben Hall. In the segment , Mitchell and Hall discuss the historical aspects of race relations in America in light of the recent riots in Charlottesville, Virginia. HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO MRS. ESTHER COOPER JACKSON '40
Esther Cooper Jackson ’40 recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family in her Massachusetts home. A native of Arlington, VA, Jackson spent over two decades as the Managing Editor of Freedom Ways Magazine. A renowned author, sociologist, and activist, Jackson was awarded an honorary doctorate from Long Island University for her commitment to social and political activism through her work with the National Negro Congress and the Southern Negro Youth Congress. Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and a master’s degree from Fisk University.

In Memoriam Jean Morrow Granger, Ph.D. '56 - of Irvine, CA passed away on August 29, 2017. Memorial services will be held were held on Saturday, September 30 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary in Santa Ana, CA.
Lamore Joseph Carter, Ph.D. '50 - of Ruston, LA passed away on August 30, 2017. Memorial services were held on Thursday, September 7 at Lewis Temple CME Church in Grambling, LA.
